The morning of his first day he said, "I'm scared to go to kindergarten." I asked him why and he said that he was afraid that he wouldn't be good. I asked if he knew the rules and he said yes and I said then it's easy, just follow the rules.
The first day I made him his requested blueberry pancakes for breakfast, plus blueberry pie for after dinner. After breakfast he asked me if he could walk into school by himself and I said no that I was going to walk him in because I needed to make sure he was safe and happy. The trip in with him was more for me than for him. He even remembered the room number, I didn't even see a room number.
Here he is doing his "mario" pose.
Such a cutie!
Hugging little sister.
We are walking across the street to go inside.
I told him to find his room and I'd stay behind so we'll know that he can find his way. He liked looking into the other rooms to see what was going on.
He wouldn't give me his attention. There were too many people around for me to try again.
He sits at a table with three other kids, two girls and one other boy. He says there are nice, but Taylor doesn't like Wii (the horror).
The teacher's assistant showing him where to put his backpack.
He's very anxious right now and pretty tired of me taking pictures. I tell him I'm going to go now so he can start his day. He hugs me and says bye. I linger for a minute more and then I hear Sarah in the hall "come on Mom, come on." We stand outside a little longer so I can spy on him and I see him relax and start to color the sheet in front of him. He was taking the bull by the horns, thank goodness. I hadn't teared up yet, but I looked over and saw a little, little guy sitting with his arms crossed and looking down. His face was getting redder and his little lip started to quiver. I lost it then and had to leave. His emotion took me over, so much for putting on a brave face. I picked Sarah up and she saw that I was crying, she said "Awwww" and gave me a big squeeze and said something like we'll see him later. She's my little caregiver. I sucked it up pretty quick and we headed off into the sunset or sunrise.
During the day Sarah said she was happy Cody was at school. I asked if she was happy because he was gone or because he is going to have fun. She said because he is going to have fun.
I was 7th in line to pick him up the first day. We sat there for 40 minutes and listened to music and did flash cards. Finally, he walked out with the other kids and looked around for me. I got out and waved and he took off running toward me. I almost busted into tears because of the joy I felt to have him back into my arms.
The morning of the second day he came into my room at 6:40 and said "mommy, I want you to park in front of the school so I can get out and walk inside on my own." I asked him why and he said "to experience it himself." Well, that's what I did. I let him go out into the big, big world...ok...it's was just across a sidewalk and down a hall, but I let him go.
