Ode to Code

After talking with a friend (Nicole) today about getting onto kids and making them feel they are always in trouble plus reading a book by Jamie Lee Curtis called "I'm gonna like me,"
I wrote this little poem for my boy to express that I love him no matter what. Sometimes I feel like I'm always hounding him to stop this, be quiet, leave your sister alone, etc. I read the poem to him and he smilled and laughed. It made me feel nice. I'm going to try to nag less and praise more.

Remember, a poet I am not.

Ode to Code

I love you when you’re happy; I love you when you’re sad,
I love you when you’re good and even when you’re bad.

I love you when you’re sleepy; I love you when you snore,
I love you when you’re groggy and even when you sleep on the floor. (Next to my bed)

I love you when you’re sweet; I love you when you’re mad
I love you when you’re quiet and nice to me and Dad.

I love you when you’re hungry; I love you when you’re not
I love how you devour your hot dog and tator tots.

I love you when you shout at the top of your lungs,
I love you when you sing quiet Bible songs.

I love how you get dirty from head to stinky little toes,
I love how the hot chocolate stays on your lips and nose.

I love that you’re nice to sister, and how when she’s gone you seem to miss her.
I even love you when you’re mean, but don’t forget we are a team.

I love you for your tender heart; and how you are so very smart.
I love you no matter what you do; I love you because you are YOU.

I love my friend I call my son; you are, to me, a precious one.

Love,
Mommy

aw, man! you're gonna trigger my urge to shed community tears, girl!!!!

i totally understand that feeling, amber. TOTALLY. i feel like i spend some days yelling and fussing more than i do anything else, and THAT frustrates me more than whatever it was that i was fussing about. *sigh*

i think that you've likely just given cody his first (and BEST) gift of the holiday season.

Awhh...how sweet!

Print that out for your scrapbook.

Hey, you're a poet and didn't even know it!

BTW...Cody was really good today at KBC.

AND...you are getting onto Cody b/c you want him to be the best Cody he can be. That's momma love.

Amber, you shock me more and more each day! That is absolutely precious and beautiful. What has happened to our cynical, unemotional Amber?!!?!? Thanks for reminding me that I need to take a break during those "bad" moments and just breath and relax and love my boys. Cody and Sarah are blessed to have you as their Mom and I am blessed to have you as a friend!

Now, you better get to writing ode to Sarah or she'll never forgive you!

Awww, this is the sweetest poem! I will have to read it to Aaron. I enjoyed our talk today and it has me thinking alot about positive reinforcement and sibling rivalry!! And to think I'm introducing another to the mix!!!
