Am I a horrible mother for dragging my two delicate children out in this freezing weather so I can go to the gym? (It's rhetorical, don't answer.) Hopefully I'm teaching my children to go after their goals even when barriers are present. There will always be barriers - children, sickness, oneself, weather, loved ones, pets, etc., etc. Today I had the cold against me and my own lack of motivation. After much deliberation I decided to suck it up and go. Argh!
I felt it was important to my livelihood that I get to the gym and complete my weekly goal of running 3 times. It seems that my opportunities for completely something are slim to none many days, so I try to hang on to what I can. I feel better physically and mentally now that I've accomplished something meaningful to me. Was it an important accomplishment? Depends on who you ask. Did I cure a disease? Well, no. Did I save a life? Uh, nope. Did I make $1000? I wish. (I know I sound like Kate G. with all the self answered question.) Maybe I saved my kids from being yelled at because I am less stressed. I can rationalize this anyway I want so I feel less guilty about taking my kids out in the cold. The bottom line is I did it and the children are going to make it. Yah!
Here is a link to a good starter workout for the core (abs, lower back, glutes):
